HAPPY BASTILLE DAY !
To celebrate France's national holiday,
I'm hosting my very first blog giveaway!
What's up for grabs, you wonder?
Well, how do you feel about this accordian player?
I spotted him at the market in Annecy's old town the other morning.
He's pretty cute, non?
And très français.
As much as I'd like to mail this handsome musicien
off to one of my lucky readers,
I'm pretty sure that's illegal.
{Plus can you even imagine how much the postage would cost?!}
{Plus can you even imagine how much the postage would cost?!}
So instead I will treat the winner
to a fantastique care package
avec beaucoup de lovely French things inside.
{And since I live just across the border from Switzerland,
I'll include some delicious chocolat suisse,
because who doesn't like chocolate, even if it's not French?}

To enter, here's what you need to do:
1. Become a follower of Rue de France, if you aren't one already.
It's as simple as clicking that "join this site" button
over there -->
over there -->
2. Leave me a comment telling me your favourite Frenchie thing.
{Yes, French fries do count...}
3. For an extra entry or two, you can blog or tweet {or both}
about my Bastille Day Giveaway.
{Be sure to leave a separate comment for each
with a link to your post. Merci!}
So now go & turn on some Edith Piaf songs,
pour yourself a glass of wine,
put your beret on,
& get entering away.
The giveaway will be open for a week,
until July 21st.
I'll draw a name that evening
& announce the winner the following day.
Bonne chance !
Now, if you'll excuse me,
I'm off to eat some Camembert,
open a bottle of champagne
& watch the Bastille Day fireworks from our balcony!
My most favourite thing? Undoubtedly la lanuge. :) Cheers from Austria
ReplyDeleteI`m not sure I can count the musée de la mode, because it was closed when I tried to go, so I will say cheese. Lots of cheese.
ReplyDelete(Also, I have a book for you, if you want it. Not so exciting as the "Economusée du Fromage" shopping bag, but still potentially hilarious.)

Hello! I ventured over here at Erin's /\ suggestion. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Bastille Day to you!
My favorite French thing? Wow... Probably the language or the soft, romantic stereotype that it has become. I love those soft, smooth words even if I can't speak it!
Bonjour!! I have been a follower for quite some time, and always enjoy your stories and especially your photos!
ReplyDeleteI have tweeted about this post (@myjoyproject) and posted on the *my joy project* facebook fan page.

Bonjour, Em! :) Although I've read your blog for some time now, I've just officially become a follower! I don't know why it took me so long! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to pick ONE favorite Frenchie thing, but if I had to narrow it down... Saturday morning market in Arles, the village of Crillon le Brave and picnics, picnics, picnics. So excited about your first giveaway, Happy Bastille Day!
ReplyDeleteOh, and...that boy is very handsome! Would love for him to play for me at mealtimes. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd as for my favorite Frenchie thing: When my fiance and I were in Paris, we loved to count the number of people that passed with baguettes hanging out of their grocery sacks. It's something American movies ALWAYS show, a complete movie-stereotype...but no one's grocery bags in the US actually look that way. Our bags are not that chic! But in France they are! Every time I spotted a baguette-toting citizen, I'd exclaim, "BAGUETTE COUNT SEVEN!! EIGHT! NINE!"
And for that matter...I also love French grocery stores. Or at least those we saw in Paris. They were small and sweet, without the obnoxiously sprawling selection that US stores have. I loved them. Since I don't speak much French beyond the needed travel lingo, we had SUCH a fun time trying to read labels and guess what different items were in the aisles.
Anyway, blah, blah. I'll stop talking now. But, I just needed to say how much I love France. :)
Oooh, my favourite French things, eh? Hmmmm....that's a tough one. I know I absolutely love the cathedrals, and of course the wine and cheese. I have to admit, a few of my favourite men on earth are French guys I've either befriended or dated (especially dated!), so do French Men count as a favourite French thing? I also love chocolate croissants. Oh! OH! The fields of lavender in southern France!! For sure!!! And all the amazing artists that have come out of France.....I could seriously go on....Now that my parents have moved away from Geneva (to JORDAN), I'm going to miss my annual trips to that part of the world!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Bastille Day :) Hi Em, I am your newest follower and you are the sweetest for this very sweet giveaway, including the very SWEET chocolate :)

Maybe I can do something similar when I start my blog about Oman :) Meantime, disappointed to note no one else has suggested my own fave - Le French Manicure, especially when done by a French Manicurist, IN France :D Yeah, we shoulda taken that accordian player home with the rest of the shopping that day - Je suis enchantee ;))) XXX Anna V.

I cannot possibly choose, so I'm just going to say the precise and indescribable way my heart feels after three days in the city of light. That about sums it up.
